Haleakala-Silversword (Argyroxiphium sandwichense) is found on the Island of Maui
(Hawaii) on the dormant Haleakala-Volcano but only above 2100m/6900ft. This very rare plant
grows in a extremly small area and is strongly protected. A similar subspecies may be found
at Mauna Kea on Big Island. There is a trail starting at 3050m/10000ft, descending to the
bottom of the enormous crater and zigzagging up again to the Crater-rim. We walked this trail
already three times in our life and always in less than 7 hrs...
